Real Estate Staging / Home Staging Blog

One Blog Post on "Emptiness" Sure Did Fill Up the Blogosphere!

Who says blogging on Real Estate industry topics does NOT get you noticed?

This is a tale that stresses the importance of and reason for finding your own blog voice and sharing your own voice.

Recently, I was approached by Design Talk, an amazingly popular on-line consumer oriented design site, with an idea they had for me to guest write a blog on why vacant homes are harder to sell then furnished homes.

Well, after doing a bit of research and learning that Design Talk gets approximately 7000 hits a day, I decided it would be a VERY good idea to write the post. My only stipulation was that I could also put the same article up on my own "pretty" blog site... better known as Home Staging Rants & Ravings. Well, the editors agreed and I did post the article on my site last Thursday.

ONLY then, after posting it on my other blog site did I discover it had been picked up by USA TODAY and posted on their on-line site. Click Here to see it there.

THEN I entered the post into this weeks 54th edition of the Carnival of Real Estate which was hosted by Realty Thoughts! THERE... it was voted to be one of the 6 top post for the week by Erik Hersman. THANKS ERIK!

WOW! Who would have thought a story about emptiness/vacancy/nothingness would be thought to be filled with so much information.

Anyway... Yudda Yudda Yudda, Blah Blah Blah! Enough about the popularity of this topic and this post.

So, what DID I actually have to say about the salibility of vacant properties? Well to surmise, I said that a vacant properties will be more difficult to sell than a furnished home.

BUT... To get the nitty gritty details you will have to click here: Vacant Homes: How They Suck Away Sales Potential and read for yourself.

Stage It Forward...

PS: The article is the first of a multi-part series.

Great post. I stage mostly vacant and every thing you said is so. so, true. Staging vacant make a huge difference when trying to sell the home. Every one loves "eye candy" and that what we give them. Oh, love the before and afters who wouldn't want to live there.

I do read Design Talk! That's awesome!!! This is great news. I said over and over and over that we need to branch out of AR as well and this is a great example! I am also set to write 3 posts for a personal finance blog that has a pretty good readership (roughly 2000/day). Will keep you posted on that one ;)

Craig, you are toooo brilliant! I would rank listings in the following manner, best being first:

1 . Vacant but well staged. They look great, photograph beautifully and they're easy to show, no appointments, escaping pets, etc...

2. Occupied but spotlessly clean and well staged.

3. Vacant but clean.

4. Occupied and clean but un-staged.

5. Vacant but dirty

6. Occupied, cluttered and dirty. That's the perfect storm!

Congratulations.  The publications are pretty darned fussy about which articles they would like to have written for them or request a right to reprint.  I look forward to learnib more about staging as our market in VA goes farther south each week
